In this time of tragedy there is hope for the country. If the people of Haiti could come together and collaborate and take this time to build a better and stronger Haiti. The Haitian Diaspora needs to put their differences aside and take this catastrophe and turn it into a pivotal turning point in Haitian history. They say what does not kill makes you stronger; I believe the Haitian people will become stronger if they really work through this tragedy in the right way.

I see so much potential for the country and the people of Haiti. Through unity and collaboration you were able to defeat Napoleon’s army.  You went around the world to help other countries fight for their freedom (U.S., South America, the Caribbean, etc). Now you have gone full circle and you need to fight for your survival come on Haitian people stand up!

This is a message to the Haitian Diaspora don’t let this earthquake be the end of Haiti. The world needs to see the strength and the beauty of the Haitian people. We need to come out of this fire as solid gold.

 I thought about my family members in Haiti who are still sleeping in tents outside and the dramatic ways their lives have been transformed. I thought about the women who are now sleeping in the tent cities scared to go to sleep because at anytime someone could enter their tent and assault them; how the children are coping and making sense of this mass destruction and how their lives and view on the world will be forever altered.

It has been almost four months since the devastating 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti on January 12, 2010. The smoke has begun to clear, the dust is settling, and the media has stop talking about this terrible tragedy. The damage is becoming much clearer and because of this it is much easier to evaluate the needs of the country. The real work is now beginning.

It is so easy to forget when you are not seeing these images and hearing about this tragedy every day. This is why I am asking you to please keep Haiti in your hearts and minds. Find out what you can do to help. The rebuilding is going to take years and Haiti will need support throughout the process.
